Sean Ono Lennon has helped bring renewed attention to John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1972 Madison Square Garden benefit concerts through the restored film Power To The People: John & Yoko Live In NYC.
The film centers on the One to One concerts, held on August 30, 1972, in support of children at Willowbrook State School in New York. The shows featured Lennon, Ono, and the Plastic Ono Elephant’s Memory Band, with both afternoon and evening performances.
The project presents restored footage from one of Lennon’s only full-length solo concert appearances after the Beatles. Songs connected to the performances include Imagine, Cold Turkey, Come Together, and New York City.
Sean Ono Lennon has been involved in preserving and presenting material from his parents’ archive, including music and film tied to their New York period. The release also places the concerts in the context of Lennon and Ono’s public activism during the early 1970s.
